The One-Child policy of China successfully controlled the population explosion and increased the living standards of the Chinese people. As China became the world's manufacturing hub, millions were alleviated from extreme poverty, and the burgeoning middle class led to rapid growth in China.
However, the skewed sex ratio and an alarming fall in the birth rates led to the abandonment of the controversial one-child policy and curbs on childbirth were removed entirely in July 2021.
